Mac Motion expands in U.S., China
Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, September 21, 2008
HIGH POINT — Recliner chair specialist Mac Motion has expanded its operations in the United States and China.
It has opened an East Coast distribution center in Carteret, N.J., to complement its West Coast facility in Compton, Calif.
“This second facility will support all distribution for our domestic quick-ship chair program in the Northeast,” said President Butch McCracken. “With high cost increases for containers, UPS and cross-country, it became a better landed price for dealers for us to establish this.”
In addition, the choice of SKUs in the Mac Motion Chair quick-ship program has grown 40% this year, he said. The program has a wider assortment of styles and leathers, including bonded leathers, to target specific retail price points. One new style, based on the original Relax-R glider model 350, will be offered at next month's High Point Market in two NextLeather (bonded leather) sauvage colors.
In China, the company has added a third facility dedicated to its promotional line, Comfort Chair by Mac Motion Chairs. The collection offers retails from $199 to $399 with mixed containers for retailers seeking promotional values in the two-piece motion category, McCracken said.
Retailers can hit retail price points ranging from $199 to $1,299 in the three Mac Motion divisions: Comfort Chair ($199 to $399), Mac Motion ($399 to $699) and the Oslo collection ($699 and up).
