Louis Blumkin, two sons named to Omaha Business Hall of Fame

Nebraska Furniture Mart leaders to be honored in April

OMAHA, Neb. — Three members of the Blumkin family, which has led Nebraska Furniture Mart for decades, have been selected to enter the Omaha Business Hall of Fame, the Omaha World-Herald reports.

The late Louis Blumkin and sons Irv, now chairman and CEO of the Mart, and Ron, president and chief operating officer, are among the winners who will be honored at a gala in April.

Irv and Ron Blumkin told the World-Herald they'd enter the hall on behalf of a broader group of other relatives and Nebraska Furniture Mart employees.

They are among the third generation of Blumkins to lead the Top 100 company. They learned under the guidance of their father, Louis, who worked at the store for 75 years before his death last year at age 93, and their legendary grandmother, Rose.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway acquired a majority interest in the retailer in 1983 but has continued to let the Blumkin family manage it.
