Decosit fair now called 'Mood'

GHENT, Belgium — Decosit, the 30-year-old Belgian fabric show driven by upholstery but also featuring other residential fabrics, is changing its name.
It will now be called Mood — a name that organizers say reflects a broader focus on all decorative fabrics including upholstery but also curtains and sheers, outdoor fabrics and innovative textiles, for both residential and contract uses.
Mood is an acronym for “meet only original designs,” a phrase underscoring that originality will be one of the criteria for acceptance into the exhibition.
The fair will still take place at the Brussels Expo in Brussels, Belgium, in September. But it will change from a Saturday-Tuesday run to a Tuesday-Friday schedule, falling on Sept. 8-11 in 2009.
Patrick Geysels, general manager, said the “Decosit” name brings upholstery fabrics to mind while “Mood” will suggest a broader mix.
“In the past we picked exhibitors that had a major portion of their offering in residential upholstery. But they also could offer curtains or sheers. Now we will accept companies with only curtains or sheers or specialists in wall coverings or contract,” said Geysels.
He said the show will look for “quality exhibitors” and expects to add new ones. But the show won't invite more Chinese fabric companies beyond the six that showed this year, he said. Several years ago the show allowed those companies in, but agreed with its other exhibitors to limit Chinese representation to that group.
Contract will continue to be a growing part of the new Mood. Contract started as an adjunct to the residential segment in 2001 as DecoContract.
