Broyhill Home Collections store in Blowing Rock to close

BLOWING ROCK, N.C . — The Broyhill Home Collections store here, the first of what was going to be a new dedicated store program for the supplier, will shut down Friday, according to a local report.

The 20,000-square-foot, two-level showroom is closing along with Broyhill showrooms in Hickory and Granite Falls, N.C., The Blowing Rocket reported on its website.

However, the Broyhill Showcase Gallery, located at the Hickory Furniture Mart, is not closing, said David Bolick, an owner of the Broyhill Showcase and Hickory Park Furniture Galleries.

A Heritage Home spokesman did not respond to Furniture/Today requests for confirmation and more information.

Broyhill, once part of Furniture Brands International, opened the log-cabin-like showroom in 2004. If was the first of some 40 Broyhill Home Collections the company planned to open across various markets by mid-2007.

But the dedicated-store program - which featured 10 facades with architectural elements playing to differing consumer profiles in various parts of the country - never got off the ground.

KPS Capital Partners acquired the bankrupt Furniture Brands assets in November and has been in the process of restructuring under the new name Heritage Home, a process that has included management consolidation and plant and store closings.

While under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Furniture Brands sought to reject more than 30 leases under its dedicated store programs.
