SAVANNAH, Ga. — Dave Carpenter, director of credit services for La-Z-Boy High Point, has been elected president of the Furniture Manufacturers Credit Assn. for the third time since 1990.
Carpenter, a member of the organization since 1978, took the gavel at the association's 47th annual meeting and awards banquet here this month. He also had led the credit managers group in 1990-1991 and in 2003-2004.
He succeeds Angie Mills of Bernhardt, who received the past president award.
Elected to the board of directors with Carpenter for 2008-2009 were Rick Clanton of C.R. Laine, vice president; Ron Teglas of Lexington Home Brands, treasurer; and Angela Collins of Berkline, secretary. Barbara Batts of Barcalounger and Norma Yount of Ferguson Copeland were named directors.
The R.K. Rudicil II award for excellence was presented to Glenn Hendren of Stanley Furniture for his contributions and service.
Clanton also was named Credit Manager of the Year, receiving the Steve Osborne award for the western region, while Rebecca Thompson with The Joseph Dean Co. was recognized in the central group.
This year's Heritage Award, established in 2000 to honor companies that support FMCA, was issued in memory of Ralph Drum of Southern Furniture, who died in July. The 10 companies cited were Bassett, Bernhardt, Ferguson Copeland, HDM, The Joseph Dean Co., La-Z-Boy/High Point, Lexington Home Brands, Stanley, Barcalounger and Vanguard.
Next year's FMCA annual meeting will be held Sept. 17-18 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
