Industry veteran Newman ‘Bernie' Bernstein dies

PALM DESERT, Calif. — Newman "Bernie" Bernstein, a veteran of the bedding and furniture industries, has died at his home here. He was 83.

He was a longtime sales manager for Whittier, Calif.-based bed frame source Bedline, which was later purchased by Leggett & Platt. Bernstein remained with Leggett & Platt as West Coast sales manager for years. Later, he formed furniture import company Dreammakers with his sons, Randy and Ronald. That company also was purchased by Leggett & Platt. Neman Bernstein retired about 15 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and six grandchildren.
