China International Furniture Fair prepares for March event

Guangzhou show's residential segment to host 3,800 exhibitors

GUANGZHOU, China - The residential furnishings segment of the China International Furniture Fair runs from March 18-22 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou.

The 33rd edition of the fair will cover residential furniture as well as outdoor, home d├ęcor and home accents, and home textiles. Combined, these categories will span about seven million square feet of exhibition space and feature 3,800 exhibitors, show officials said.

The furniture segment covers about half this space and includes about 1,700 exhibitors, show officials said. It is expected to draw about 100,000 or half of the total 200,000 visitors expected from around the world.

Among the key features of this year's event are a 200,000-square-foot space reserved for well-known international brands such as Natuzzi, Ashley, Cheers, Chateau D'Ax, Cavalli, HTL and Lugano Furniture. The show also will have a dedicated area for youth furniture called the Kids & Teens Furniture Zone.

As buyers have come to expect, halls also segment various styles and design categories including classical and modern furniture. Home furnishings design trends will be featured as part of the sixth CIFF Design Gallery.

An office segment of CIFF will be held March 28-April 1 at the same complex. This segment also features the China International Furniture Machinery & Furniture Raw Materials Fair.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
