Glucksman named EVP of Ashley HomeStores division
February 5, 2014,
In the new position, Glucksman is responsible for all corporate and licensed store operations and new store development, including the Ashley Sleep Shops in North America. The company's network of HomeStores - No. 1 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 -topped 500 U.S. and international stores last month.
Glucksman most recently was senior vice president of strategic development at Warren, Mich.-based Art Van, where according to Ashley, he was responsible for initiatives including acquisitions, franchising, entry into the Chicago and Toledo markets, and new concept and category introductions.
He has more than 25 years of industry experience. Before joining Art Van, he was president and CEO of the former Nationwide Mattress and Furniture Warehouse of Norcross, Ga., and president and chief operating officer of the former Brandon Home Furnishings in West Palm Beach, Fla. He also held executive posts at Rent Rite, Thorn EMI and Rent-A-Center.
Glucksman, who will be based in Brandon, Fla., is not taking the post of John Disa, former president of Global Retail over the HomeStores division, who left in November, but he will be taking on many of Disa's former duties, the company said.
"Steve brings solid retail experience to our company, with a strong orientation in retail and retail process (including) retail operating systems and procedures," Ashley CEO Todd Wanek said.
In an internal announcement, Ashley said Glucksman's "experience in store operations, strategy, and business development will be a tremendous asset to our organization, especially around Ashley Sleep Shops - our newest store concept."
The company is continuing to look into a replacement for Disa, Wanek said, but he added it's in no rush and is "very comfortable with the leadership team we have in place."
Art Van CEO Kim Yost said the retailer is recruiting to replace Glucksman.
Ashley has not disclosed 2013 HomeStores sales, but Wanek said it was a good year for the stores and that 2014 is off to a strong start too. Ashley's HomeStores network is No. 1 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 with estimated furniture, bedding and accessories sales of $2.94 billion at 462 U.S. stores in 2012.
