Hendricks Group makes leadership changes

By Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, October 13, 2008

Hendricks Furniture Group has announced leadership changes that it said are designed “to better leverage the strengths of the retailer's top executives” and bring greater focus to its retail and operations sides.

Larry Hendricks, HFG's founder and CEO for the past 35 years, will become chairman of the company's new board of the directors. Former Executive Vice President Chad Hendricks has been named president. And former HFG president Rick Grant is now majority owner and president and CEO of Classic Moving & Storage, which had been under HFG but will now be operated independently.

The company said it evaluated the strengths and positioning of the company's retail, storage and delivery divisions.

“It became clear to us that we had a real opportunity to sharpen our retail and operational focus,” Larry Hendricks said.

Classic Moving & Storage has been dedicated to HFG's upscale Boyles and Norris stores, but as a separate company, it will now offer deluxe, white-glove delivery and furniture storage services to other manufacturers and retailers as well, said Matt Ferebee, HFG spokesman.

Chad Hendricks, Larry's son, has more than 20 years of management experience in the family business and his “successful track record in sales and marketing makes him the perfect choice to pursue more market-driven consumer-centric retailing,” Grant said.

Grant, meanwhile, has worked in operations and management at HFG and earlier with Fort Myers, Fla.-based Robb & Stucky.

“These changes put our company in a better position to leverage our existing strengths, and to better serve our customers across the country,” Chad Hendricks said. “They also prepare the way for the exciting new retail approach we'll be introducing to consumers in 2009.”

Last month, HFG sold its remaining 10 Thomasville Home Furnishings stores to Thomasville Furniture Inds., saying it wanted to focus its resources on its Norris and Boyles brands in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. With the sale, HFG now operates 14 stores.
