High Point Market Fall 2008: La-Z-Boy goes high-tech

Cushions use four densities of foam

Chris Schultz -- Furniture Today, October 21, 2008

AT THE MARKET - La-Z-Boy is introducing a stationary upholstery line at the High Point Market called the Premier Collection, featuring new ComfortCore cushion technology.

The company said the cushion is designed with four different foam densities distributed to provide the best comfort and support level for various areas of the seat. The front features a softer cushion to relieve pressure from under the knees, while the rear has the heaviest and most firm foam to support center weight.

A layer of high-comfort, lighter foam rests on the top and bottom of the cushion, creating an added layer of support for lasting comfort and durability, according to La-Z-Boy. Finally, an outer layer provides additional softness.

As an upgrade, a ComfortCore Plus seat cushion also features a zone core and a feather-blend jacket.

"The La-Z-Boy Premier line is completely focused on our customer's comfort needs," said Paula Hoyas, vice president of upholstery merchandising. "With ComfortCore cushioning, our customers will feel more relaxed under the knees, and in the seat and back, providing a new level of support and ultimately leading to a more comfortable experience."

In addition to the cushion, the line's other new standard features include padding on the outer arms and back as well as free matching accent pillows with down-proof ticking. Also, the company said its La-Z-Boy logo decking gives the collection a more custom look and assures the consumer that they have purchased genuine La-Z-Boy furniture.

"Many customers looking for La-Z-Boy comfort are looking for a high-quality, more luxurious product to suit their lifestyle," said Doug Collier, the company's chief marketing officer. "Our Premier line will deliver comfort to those consumers craving the ultimate sitting experience."

The Premier line will have a variety of new style options and also will include 14 existing La-Z-Boy styles.
Customers purchasing stationary furniture styles outside of the Premier line can upgrade to ComfortCore as well, according to the company.
