Larry Rogers, Sleep Country to receive Canadian awards

Will be honored at CHFA gala in January

Michael Knell -- Furniture Today, October 24, 2008

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Two exemplars of the North America mattress industry will be saluted for their achievements at the Canadian Home Furnishings Awards gala in January as Sleep Country Canada is named Retailer of the Year and Sealy President and CEO Larry Rogers receives the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Both honors are presented by the Canadian Home Furnishings Alliance.

The retailer award recognizes business excellence and community service.

"Sleep Country Canada is a great example of a retailer that truly represents success in our industry. They embody the spirit of enterprise and innovation that is admired and provides inspiration for other businesses to follow. Sleep Country is a very worthy recipient of this coveted award," said CHFA Chairman Laine Reynolds.

Sleep Country Canada began with just four stores, and now has 133 stores and 13 distribution centers. It also owns the Dormez-vous banner in Quebec and the Arizona-based Sleep America.

The Lifetime Achievement Award salutes a person who has made exemplary and sustained contributions to the Canadian home furnishings industry and his or her community.

"Over the years Larry Rogers has played an outstanding and significant role in the success of Sealy and has recently been appointed president and CEO," Reynolds said. "He is a top level, high-energy business executive that is respected for his exceptional experience, solid customer relationships and commitment to leadership excellence. Larry is a most deserving recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award."

The awards gala is set for Friday, Jan. 9, in the new conference facility at the International Centre here on the eve of the Canadian Home Furnishings Market, which runs Jan. 10-13.

To purchase tickets to the gala or for more information contact CHFA president Murray Vaughn at (905) 677-6561 or e-mail him at murray@chfaweb.ca.
