Art Van closes PureSleep shops in Indy

Had been acquired in Mattress World purchase

INDIANAPOLIS — Art Van Furniture has closed its nine Art Van PureSleep stores in greater Indianapolis less than a year after converting to the format from the former Mattress World.

In a release, the Warren, Mich.-based Top 100 company noted that the leases were set to expire and after reviewing the stores’ performance, it decided not to renew. The stores were set to close by July 15.

“When the right opportunities present themselves in Indianapolis down the road, we will absolutely pursue new growth in the region,” said Art Van CEO Kim Yost.

“Our current focus is on Art Van Furniture’s continued growth and expansion in Michigan, Ohio and Chicago.”

Art Van acquired Mattress World, with stores in Michigan and Indiana, in 2011. In July 2013, it announced plans to convert the then 31-store Mattress World chain to its PureSleep format, with the work expected to be completed by the end of the year.
