Therapedic welcomes new licensees

By David Perry -- Furniture Today, 11/10/2008 12:00:00 AM

Top 10 bedding producer Therapedic is bolstering its lineup with the addition of new licensees in the United States and in the Caribbean, company officials said at the producer's annual meeting here.

“We are sending a message that this is a company and a brand that is on the move,” declared Gerry Borreggine, Therapedic's CEO and president.

He announced three new licensees at the company's annual meeting here, including:

  • Regal Mattress in Orlando, Fla., which has been owned and operated by the Saunders family since 1978. Founder Jim Saunders works with his son, Jimmy, who runs the factory and manages purchasing. They are moving into a new 33,000-square-foot facility in Orlando.
“We are looking to grow our current base of business and Therapedic will help us do that more effectively,” Jimmy Saunders said. He also said Therapedic will help the producer boost its average unit selling prices.

  • Sleep Rite Inds., a bedding producer based in San Francisco that had been a Restonic licensee for more than three decades.
“We felt it was time to make a change,” said Jeff Karp, president of Sleep Rite, which has been owned and operated by the Karp family for 40 years. “And Therapedic is a brand that has interested us for a long time. We see a large upside in our market. We expect Therapedic to be a big help to us in achieving increased market share.”
Sleep Rite will operate as Therapedic-San Francisco, and will service the northern California market, southern Oregon and the western part of Nevada.

  • Advance Foam Ltd. of Trinidad, West Indies, which will be known as Therapedic Trinidad and Tobago. Advance Foam, which also operates as a Serta licensee, gives Therapedic a major presence in the Caribbean, with plants in Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Trinidad, officials said.
“We are very pleased to join the Therapedic team,” said Esau Mohammed, CEO of Advance Foam. “The brand, with its offering of specialty products, including visco, latex and air, will give us a great opportunity to grow our existing business.”
“Advance Foam gives us the largest footprint in the Caribbean,” Borreggine said. “We are hopeful that, in conjunction with Jamaica and Puerto Rico, Therapedic will become the dominant brand in the region.”
