Riverside Furniture laying off 250 workers
Reducing expenses to reflect market conditions

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Manufacturer and importer Riverside Furniture said Wednesday it would lay off 250 employees here because of declining furniture sales, made worse by the global financial crisis.
Riverside said it will consolidate its Plants 2 and 6 into a single operation by Jan. 12. The layoff will affect positions companywide as operating expenses are reduced in all areas to reflect current market conditions, the company said.
