CALHOUN, Ga. — Rizzy Rugs will introduce Indian-made, power-loomed rugs in early 2009, said Mark Ferullo, vice president of sales for the vertical manufacturer and importer.
The Rizzy line will be the first Indian machine-made rugs on the market, according to the company. India is known as a major source for hand-knotted, hand-tufted and hand-loomed rugs, but most machine-made rugs are from countries such as Belgium, France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey and the United States.
The new Rizzy line will be made on six- and eight-frame Van der Wiele power looms, Ferullo said. Rizzy also is building fiber extrusion facilities in India.
“We will initially have six collections, including three heat-set polypropylene groups, two wool collections and one viscose group,” he said. Retail price points for a 5 by 8 size will be $99, $199, $299 and $399.
The rugs will be made about 100 miles outside of New Delhi, rather than in the traditional rug-making centers of Jaipur or Veranase.
