Hep Direct adds logistics services

Will help designers, serve new areas

Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, May 12, 2010

HIGH POINT — Hep Direct, a home delivery service and logistics provider with numerous furniture industry clients, has expanded its offerings and its delivery area with the launch of a pair of new services.

The first launch will expand the company's delivery area to include key ZIP Codes in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

The second, called Hep Designer Services, provides consolidation, storage, scheduling and delivery services for interior designers, architects and design studios throughout the country, said Keith Hewitt, CEO.

"We will control the process all the way from the manufacturer's dock to the designated room of choice in the home," Hewitt said. He said he believes Hep is the first logistics provider to offer such services to designers on a national basis.

To support the effort, the company has developed a standalone website, www.hep-designer.com, and is hiring a dedicated support staff. Darin Morgan, vice president of business development, is heading the new venture.

"Our goal is to assist the designer in achieving their full potential by providing a quality array of professional services," said Hewitt.

The expanded delivery service, which features rates starting at $487 (plus a fuel surcharge), provides for "white glove" home delivery of furniture from anywhere in 48 contiguous states to parts of Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

The rate includes moving the furniture to Hep's warehouses in North Carolina or California, ocean freight, bunker charges, wharf charges, loading and stripping. In addition, it includes shuttle, barge or ferry service to secondary ports and islands.

Hewitt said the service is available to Alaska ZIP Codes 96700 to 96970, Hawaii ZIP Codes 99500 to 99950, and Puerto Rico ZIP Codes 00600 to 00999.

Deliveries to other ZIP Codes may be available at a higher rate, he said.

Recipients will be given a four-hour delivery window, and a two-person delivery team will unpack the furniture, remove packing materials, and spend up to 30 minutes assembling the product.

Rate quotes are available from logistics@hep-direct.com.
