Armen Living adds China plant capacity

LOS ANGELES —
Importer and manufacturer Armen Living is quadrupling its production capacity in China with a new production facility to meet what the company said is increased demand.
The company began phasing in the plant last month and should have it fully operational this summer, said Kevin Kevonian, president and owner of Armen Living.
Located in Dongguan, the facility began as a joint venture in 2004 and is known as MeiYi Furniture Co. Ltd. More than 80% of Armen's products are made there, with the remainder sourced from Europe.
Kevonian said the initial factory was 50,000 square feet and employed about 180 to 200 workers. The new facility is more than 200,000 square feet and will employ 500 workers.
The company currently produces upholstery, dining rooms, occasional tables, accent chairs, storage benches and ottomans, among other items. The larger factory will help it expand its case goods and upholstery capabilities, Kevonian said.
Armen Living changed its name from Armen Art last year as part of a brand revitalization effort with a focus on a younger audience.
