Furniture Liquidators of America opens two Charlotte, N.C., stores

Both "pop-up" locations will stay open through August

Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, May 26, 2010

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The owner of the short-term or "pop-up" furniture store concept Furniture Liquidators of America said it has "re-grandopened" its store here as well as a second in greater Charlotte market.

Asheboro, N.C.-based Innovision Retail, is led by president and owner Jeff Davis and is the parent company of Furniture Liquidators of America.

It reopened the 20,000-square-foot store on Smith Corners Boulevard for a new event running through August. It also has leased a second location in nearby Mooresville, N.C., on River Highway in a vacated 30,000-square-foot Linens n' Things store. The store opened May 15 and "will establish us in that marketplace through August," Davis said.

According to the company, the stores offer brand name home furnishings and accents "at a fraction of the cost of traditional retailers by keeping low overhead and utilizing prime real estate locations via short-term leases."

Suppliers include Klaussner Home Furnishings, Liberty and Spring Air. The stores also sell closeouts and overstocks, as well as a limited assortment of best-selling goods.

Davis said that based on its first run in the Smith Corners location, the company is looking for $60,000 in sales weekly at each store.

"I've been in the home furnishings industry for a long time, and more than ever shoppers are looking to names they can trust, from a retailer they can trust, but at a price they can afford," he said.

Innovision hopes to do as many as 10 "pop-up" events in the Southeast through FLA as well as under the names Furniture Market Roadshow and Furniturethon. It also opened a new concept Groovy Scavenger small test store in Asheboro in April and plans to have two permanent locations in Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C., opened later this year. The stores are expected to have Thursday-through-Sunday shopping hours.
