Chinese furniture makers to discuss sunset review
Factory associations will host meeting in Dongguan

DONGGUAN, China — Chinese furniture producers plan to meet here later this month to learn details about the upcoming sunset review of U.S. antidumping duties on Chinese-made wooden bedroom furniture.
Leaders of the Hong Kong, Taiwan and Chinese furniture manufacturers associations are hosting a meeting on June 25 to discuss the review. Sui-Yu Wu, of Taiwanese law firm Wu & Partners, will lead the discussion and answer questions relating to the process.
The U.S. International Trade Commission performs a sunset review on the fifth anniversary of the imposition of duties in an antidumping case. It will determine whether to continue the duties for another five years.
As part of the process, the U.S. International Trade Commission seeks input from importers, retailers and manufacturers, including U.S. producers.
Jason Liu, CEO of China-based case goods manufacturer Fairmont Designs, said industry leaders are encouraging the 50 largest Chinese producers to attend. He said they will be able to learn about the review process and also about filling out questionnaires due back to the ITC in late July.
"We are trying to show the ITC that this is just not about one or two manufacturers," he said. "The whole industry is concerned about this."
Peter Koenig, an attorney with Washington-based Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, said his firm is representing Chinese manufacturers in the case. While his firm is not attending the meeting, he said the manufacturers' input will be important to the review process.
"It's important to answer the ITC questionnaires so the ITC can reach a decision," he said.
