UPDATE: Becker Furniture World to open replacement store in August
Will occupy 40,000 square feet in Minneapolis suburb
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 16, 2010
BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Becker Furniture World will open a 33,000-square-foot store here in October, replacing a nearby Becker Furniture Liquidation Superstore that is closing Aug. 29, according to a report by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal.
The Becker, Minn.-based retailer is spending about $2 million to open the "satellite store" in the Burnsville Crossing shopping center in this southern suburb of Minneapolis.
According to the city of Burnsville's website, the city is the seventh largest in the state in retail sales volume.
"The suburbs south of the Twin Cities are vibrant and growing, but underserved by Becker Furniture World," founder Doug Huseby told the Business Journal. Click here to read the story.
A Becker official told Furniture/Today there's one error in the story. Becker will open the store in a completely renovated 40,000-square-foot space in the shopping center, not in a former PetSmart store as reported. The PetSmart store remains in the center and will be next to Becker Furniture World. The project also will include a freestanding Becker Mattress store.
