Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 20, 2010
AMBLER, Pa. — Albert Boscov, chairman and CEO of Reading, Pa.-based department store chain Boscov's, has been named the 2010 Person of the Year by the Tri-State Home Furnishings Assn.
The association said Boscov has "set a new standard for successful retailing, and is deeply involved in the community and corporate citizenship." It said he has continued the fundamental precepts of business brought to this country by his immigrant father, company founder Solomon Boscov - make shopping fun, don't take yourself too seriously, and treat employees like family.
It also cited Boscov and his stores for their contributions to their communities, including numerous fundraising events for the United Way, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and other nonprofit organizations. The retailer has 39 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Delaware.
Albert Boscov will be honored at the Tri-State HFA's Nov. 16 awards dinner at the Holiday Inn-Historic District in Philadelphia.
Also at the dinner, Marc Luber, president of World Imports, will be installed as president of the Tri-State group. Other awards also will be presented to recognize sales representatives and retailers for contributions to the industry and the association.
For information on the dinner, contact the association's Cathy Reed at (215) 646-5831 or tshfa_Cathy@hotmail.com.
