Second National Home Furnishings Month set for September
World Market Center to give away mortgage payment prize
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, July 28, 2010
LAS VEGAS — The World Market Center will make the mortgage payments for a year for one lucky sweepstakes winner tied to its second annual National Home Furnishings Month promotion.
The promotion also includes a Sept. 18-26 sales event endorsed by eight trade associations.
Retailers can sign up to participate in the promotion and the sweepstakes by going online to www.homeyet.com/retailer-login or by visiting a kiosk in the Building C atrium or the Western Home Furnishings Assn. space at C-496 during next week's Las Vegas Market.
The sweepstakes will run through September and will be promoted online and through stores. Retailers can opt-in as a store where consumers can enter to win. The WMC said it also encourages stores to promote the contest and take advantage of the free marketing tools it's offering.
The sweepstakes prize actually will be awarded as $24,000 in cash, based on an average monthly home mortgage expense of $2,000.
"This promotion helps lighten what can be a hefty burden on today's families while giving them the freedom to rejuvenate their home with new furnishings," said Bob Maricich, WMC president and CEO.
"To make it truly turn-key, we are offering creative content and free tools for retailer to ‘plug and play' this campaign with their own brand and in their own markets, which ... will multiply the collective voice and effect we can have on consumers buying for their home," he said.
Last year's sweepstakes featured weekly $5,000 home makeover prizes during the month of September.
The tool kit includes branding and usage guidelines, public relations ideas, print ads, in-store displays, an e-mail template, an in-store banner and other tools. Stores can opt in to a homeyet.com retailer locator tool and would get a premier listing on the locator when they participate in the sweepstakes, according to a release.
Online or at the furniture market, retailers can get their free listing on the locator as well as the information and tools needed to participate.
WMC has extended its partnership with Sale-in-a-Box, which will produce printed materials for retailers wanting to use the campaign in their stores.
WMC launched the first National Home Furnishings Month last year and said nearly 2,000 retailers downloaded the toolkits for the promotion.
The average age of consumers engaged in the event last year was nearly 50 and skewed 2:1 female. WMC said 78% of the participants said they planned to make home furnishings purchases this year, with living room ranked as first choice of rooms to be refurnished.
The National Home Furnishings Month marketing initiative is endorsed by the National Home Furnishings Assn., the Western Home Furnishings Assn., the Home Furnishings Independents Assn., the Sustainable Furnishings Council, the American Society of Furniture Designers, the Specialty Sleep Assn., Women in the Home Industries Today (WithIt) and the International Sleep Products Assn.
