And the producer is also bringing out a customizable mattress designed to broaden the appeal of its line
The Yuba City, Calif.-based producer is showing in a new space here in the World Market Center, C-1515. Walt Bader, president and CEO of OMI, said it's time for the producer to step up its visibility.
"As our brand grows, the merchandising of our products becomes much more important," he said. "The new showroom allows us to maximize and better showcase our products to retailers. Our fully integrated organic bedding systems will be presented in visually appealing vignettes, offering our retailers additional merchandising ideas while capitalizing on our new convenient location on ‘Mattress Row.'"
The new customizable mattress is a dual core sleep system, the OrganicPedic Duo by OMI. Customer demand for customizable products is on the upswing, Bader said.
"We all know sleep is vital for physical and emotional well being, but many couples find sharing a bed difficult," he said. "For far too long, the organic consumer has had to accept products that were not held to the same quality level as mainstream offerings. People were sacrificing comfort for healthy sleep."
The Duo allows OMI to give its customers more comfort choices.
The zippered organic cotton quilted cover allows easy access to the interior layers. The top layer of the bed is a 3.5-inch natural latex sculpted section. Underneath that there are two adjustable comfort layers on each side of the bed, nestled together to form the bed's core. Each interchangeable layer is labeled to identify the comfort options - extra soft, soft, medium and firm - that the customer can choose.
"Our retailers requested organic mattresses with more customizable sleep options," Bader said. "Along with our OrganicPedic 81, which we recently introduced, our latest introductions relieve retailers from the headache of comfort exchanges and give consumers control of their comfort by adjusting a layer, if needed."
The Duo has contrasting color details and a brass zippered cover. It has a suggested retail of $3,995.
OMI makes all of its beds at its California factory, which it describes as the only "eco-factory" in the industry built solely to manufacture organic products. OMI mattresses are Greenguard certified.
Bader has authored a book, "Toxic Bedrooms: Your Guide to a Safe Night's Sleep," that talks about the research he conducted in his quest for better sleep.
"The message of the book is to educate people about socially responsible choices that reduce their personal exposure to toxic materials," he said
