![]() Vivon International is offering the Vivon Life Positional Mattress line of adjustable beds with the motion mechanisms built into the mattress. |
The Vivon Life Positional Mattress is the first mattress to achieve "complete positional functionality within a single, self-contained piece," the company said. The mattress uses a dual-motor system and can be used with any standard bed, according to the company.
"Let's face it, bedrooms are not just for sleeping anymore, but traditional adjustable beds are perceived as being for the old and the infirm; they're generally considered clunky and clinical and lacking in style which is why they haven't been embraced by the younger, more active consumer," said Colin Lawrie, vice president of sales for Vivon.
"The Vivon Life Positional Mattress integrates all of the mechanics inside the mattress, allowing a variety of activities while maintaining a sophisticated and sleek styling, so that consumers don't need to buy new beds or make compromises in their choice of décor or furniture," Lawrie said.
Vivon, based in Hayward, Calif., will have its own sales force. Zinus currently distributes bedding products in the United States through Spirit Sleep, and that relationship will continue, Vivon officials said.
Vivon said the Vivon Life Positional Mattress line is the result of almost four years of research and development by industry veterans and engineering teams. The dual motor system delivers "a nearly infinite range of positions," enabling the consumer to position the bed for reading, eating, using a laptop, watching TV and other activities, Vivon said.
The system uses environmentally friendly materials. The company's proprietary memory foam blend, Restech, uses seed oil to replace petroleum-based products. Natural deodorizers, activated charcoal and green tea are used to eliminate the need to air out the mattress, the company said.
The mattress is wrapped in a fabric blend that includes Tencel, known for its moisture-wicking properties. The mattress includes "variable zonal support technology" that provides balanced support for the body. The system comes with wired or wireless remote controls and has optional massage features, the company said.
"Vivon Life products are made with the active and technology-embracing consumer in mind," said Lawrie. "These individuals consider technologically advanced products as vital to achieving success in their careers and in every aspect of their lives."
The mattress comprises twin extra-long models that can be used alone or together. This fall, a full-sized model will be available, as will a queen-sized mattress with two individual units. Retails range from $1,800 to about $2,800.
The line will be available in specialty sleep and furniture stores in September, officials said. Vivon is showing in World Market Center C-1538.
