Ashley edges Wal-Mart as industry's largest

Top 25 Retailers ReportHIGH POINT - With its nearly $2.05 billion in sales last year, the Ashley Furniture HomeStores network took back the No. 1 spot among the nation's largest furniture and bedding retailers from Wal-Mart.

It's the second time on top for the Wisconsin-based dedicated network of corporate and licensed stores as the 401 HomeStores posted $95 million more in furniture and bedding sales than their Arkansas-based rival. Wal-Mart slipped to No. 2 with an estimated $1.95 billion in furniture and bedding, down 3.6% from the year before, when it edged out Ashley by a mere $12 million. FurnitureToday's Top 25 Furniture and Bedding Retailers
Furniture Today's exclusive survey of the Top Retail Giants ranks the Top 25 U.S. furniture and bedding retailers.

Companies are ranked according to their estimated 2009 sales of furniture and bedding. Decorative accessory sales, including lamps, area rugs, wall décor and mirrors, are excluded. Decorative accessory sales were included in the Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores Ranking, published in Furniture Today's May 24, 2010, issue.

Data is based on fiscal years ended Dec. 31, unless otherwise noted.
