Chico, Calif., Ashley store to close
Evans Furniture will take over space
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 31, 2010
CHICO, Calif. — The Ashley Furniture HomeStore here will close down in September and will be replaced by another local furniture retailer, according to a report by the Oroville Mercury Register.
Liquidator SPCI Cos., which handled the HomeStore closings in nearby Redding and Yuba City, Calif., will run the sale in Chico as well, the report said. The other stores closed Sunday.
The landlord for the Chico store, a licensed unit operated by Robert and Vera Myers, terminated the lease. Earlier, Ashley Furniture Inds. had stepped in to make good on orders that were paid for by consumers but not delivered by the licensee.
Evans Furniture of Yuba City - which once had stores in Redding and Chico - will replace the HomeStore.
In 2008, Robert Myers talked to Furniture/Today about the ongoing credit crunch faced by furniture and other retailers, noting among other things that industry retailers were taking a big hit on consumer credit approvals.
