Pier 1 Imports' comp-store sales jump 11.2% in quarter
Total sales rise about 8% to $310 million

FORT WORTH, Texas — Retailer Pier 1 Imports said its comparable-store sales for the quarter ended Aug. 28 jumped 11.2%.Total sales for the period - the second quarter of the Fort Worth-based retailer's fiscal year - were approximately $310 million, an increase of about 8% from the same quarter last year.
"We are extremely pleased with our comp store sales results for the second quarter," said Alex Smith, president and CEO. "We continue to see strengths in all parts of the country and in all merchandise categories - with improvements in traffic, conversion and ticket."
In last year's second quarter, Pier 1 had a 7.6% decline in comparable-store sales.
For the six months ended Aug. 28, comparable-store sales increased 12.7% and total sales were approximately $616 million, up from $568 million in the first half of the previous fiscal year.
The retailer said it plans to release complete financial results for the second quarter on Sept. 16.
