Star Furniture opens new Austin store
New location features expanded design center, updated bedding department

AUSTIN, Texas — Star Furniture will grand open its new 75,000-square-foot store here next Thursday with a ribbon cutting followed by a customer appreciation and charity event.
The showroom, on Interstate 35 in the Tech Ridge area of Austin, south of Round Rock, Texas, replaces a slightly larger store Star operated in the Aboretum shopping area of the city. The Sept. 16 grand opening follows a soft opening this past Labor Day weekend.
"This gives us a much stronger presence and accessibility, and we're very excited about it," said Bill Kimbrell, CEO of Houston-based Star, part of the Berkshire Hathaway furniture division. "It's gotten off to a good start."
Kimbrell wouldn't disclose projected sales for the new location.
Among the new features is an expanded design center and updated bedding department, featuring Serta, Simmons and Tempur-Pedic, as well as an expanded motion upholstery presentation. Other key suppliers include Bernhardt, Flexsteel, Kincaid, Thomasville and Aspenhome.
The design of the new store essentially duplicates a north Houston showroom that Star opened about two years ago. A similar format will open in south Houston in May, replacing an existing store there.
Proceeds from a grand opening charity event in Austin will benefit the city's "I Live Here, I Give Here" campaign.
