Hike for Hope set for Oct. 14 in High Point
Fifth annual event to raise money for City of Hope
Tanya Merritte -- Furniture Today, September 16, 2010
HIGH POINT — City of Hope's fifth annual Hike for Hope will take place Oct. 14, two days before the official start of the fall High Point Market.
Proceeds from the one-mile hike will go to City of Hope, a research and treatment facility for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
This year's grand marshals are Shari Wagner and Paulette Rippley of Ashley Furniture. In 2005 the women came up with the idea for the hike, which has since raised nearly $250,000 for City of Hope. This year's event is sponsored by Ashley Furniture and Aspenhome.
Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. The hike, which will be held rain or shine, starts at 5:30 p.m. at Showplace in downtown High Point. The fee to take part is $20.
An after-hike celebration will begin at 6 p.m. at Showplace with entertainment by The A to Z Band. Refreshments will be available with a suggested donation of $2 for food and $1 for drinks. Tips collected in the food areas will go toward cancer drug research.
