Premarket buyer count highest in recent years
Heath E Combs -- Furniture Today, September 21, 2010
HIGH POINT - Next week's High Point Premarket has registered its highest number of buyers since the event began its reincarnation four years ago, according to the High Point Market Authority.
By last week, 216 buyers from 85 companies had signed up to attend the event Sept. 13-14, said Brian Casey, Market Authority president and CEO. That is well ahead of the spring Premarket, when 161 buyers from 70 companies registered.
Casey said Premarket's strength is the result of its strong list of sponsors who focus on being market-ready - the main draw for quality buying organizations to come to the event.
"The actual numbers aren't really important. It's the quality of the event. And the quality of the event has been a result of the 25 sponsor companies that have really made this thing happen," he said.
Buying group Furniture First will hold its annual symposium in neighboring Greensboro, N.C., just before Premarket.
The exhibitor list includes 25 companies that are sponsoring the event, and 75 others that also will open their doors for Premarket. Also taking part as sponsors are three showroom building owners, the International Home Furnishings Center, 220 Elm and the Merchandise Mart Properties Inc.
Furniture/Today will run an updated list of the exhibiting companies periodically before the event on www.furnituretoday.com. To be included on future lists, companies should contact Staff Writer Heath E. Combs at hcombs@furnituretoday.com.
Premarket takes place about a month before the April and October High Point markets, allowing manufacturers and suppliers a chance to show new product prototypes in advance of the spring and fall shows. The fall market opens Oct. 16.
