Weir's Furniture Village moving to larger distribution center

Building also will house HQ, outlet store

Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, September 27, 2010

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — Weir's Furniture Village said it has purchased a 420,000-square-foot building here for a new headquarters, distribution center and Weir's Furniture Outlet store.

The facility at 4800 Spring Valley Road is close to the North Dallas Design District and Galleria retail areas as well as conveniently located between the company's existing full-service stores in Dallas, Plano and Southlake, Texas, the company said.

The purchase price was not disclosed. With the new facility, Weir's will more than double the distribution center space it has in its existing facility near Interstate 35 and Mockingbird Lane in Dallas.

"To better serve our customers, we wanted to relocate our warehouse operations to a more centrally located and more efficient building," said President Mark Moore, grandson of Weir's founder J. Ray Weir.

The retailer did not say when the facility will open, but Weir's board member Todd Moore said in a release that, "Our initial focus will be to get the warehouse and delivery operations up and running, and then we will turn our attention to completing the Weir Furniture Outlet."

The company also said it is changing the name of its Clearance & More outlets to Weir's Furniture Outlet. With the newest and largest location, Weir's will have four outlets in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, in addition to the three full-service stores.

"The outlet stores will continue to specialize in unique, value-priced items purchased especially for the outlet and to function as a clearinghouse for ‘as-is' items and ‘last ones,'" the company said.
