International Bedding names Dan Hige president, Dennis Straily VP of sales

CEO Jeff Maillet says promotions ‘strategically important'

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Top 10 bedding producer International Bedding has promoted Dan Hige to president and chief operating officer and Dennis Straily to vice president of sales.

International Bedding CEO Jeff Maillet said the promotions are "strategically important" for the bedding producer.

"Both Dan and Dennis have contributed extensively to the success of IB," he said. "Their promotions carry forward the company's core values, our culture of continuous improvement, and our desire to meet or exceed all of our goals and strategies."

Hige, who has been in the bedding industry for 18 years, joined IB in 2008 as vice president of manufacturing. As president and COO, he will head sales and operations, reporting to Maillet.

Straily, who joined IB in 2005 as central regional vice president of sales, will oversee all residential and contract functions. He reports to Hige.

IB announced the promotions in the wake of key departures from the company. Tony Smith, who was president and CEO, recently left to take a management position at Simmons. And Eric Johnson, who was senior vice president of merchandising and marketing, has left to take another position in the industry, bedding observers said.

Hige said IB has "a talented team of managers and employees, all of whom are extremely dedicated to serving our customers and improving our organization.... There are very few manufacturers that have faced the economic hurdles of the past two years and improved overall dollar return by more than 25% each year. I'm proud to say that IB falls in that category."

Straily, a 20-year bedding veteran, said he looks forward to working with all of the company's dealers. "I want to expand our existing retail relationships, cultivate new business and focus on growing the entire Sleep Doctor brand and program," he said, referring to the new bedding line the company introduced earlier this year with Sleep Doctor Michael Breus.

Hige said the Sleep Doctor line was a coordinated effort of the IB team, and that it "reflects on our strength as a company and on our ability to offer unique and meaningful programs to retailers."

International Bedding will be showing the Sleep Doctor line and a number of new bedding models at this month's High Point Market.

IB owns and operates five manufacturing plants in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Texas.
