HIGH POINT — Bedding major Serta International has signed a licensing agreement with upholstery producer Hughes Furniture that will give Hughes the right to produce and market upholstery under the Serta brand name.
Under terms of the agreement, Hughes will use the well-known bedding brand on stationary sofas, loveseats, chairs and ottomans, as well as sofa-sleepers, recliners and other motion upholstery.
The new line is debuting in Hughes' High Point Market showroom at 258 S. Main St.
Hughes currently makes recliners and motion furniture under the Motion Eaze name and sells the rest of its line under the Hughes name.
"By working closely with Serta and its powerful brand name, we believe we can significantly grow our business in the next few years," said Hughes Furniture President Bruce Hughes.
The Serta upholstery line will be produced at Hughes' factory in Randleman, N.C.
"The Hughes Furniture approach to efficient manufacturing and comprehensive quality control in the construction of a comfort-focused product meshes very well with Serta's philosophy," said Serta President Bob Sherman. "We're very pleased to be working with a company that's so well-respected in the industry.
