The company, showing in space M-110 of the International Home Furnishings Center, has 10 new upholstery frames and close to 80 new accent pieces, including tables, consoles, chairs, chests, secretaries and more.
Cecil Adams, creative director, said that while many of the new furniture pieces are from the company's factory in the Philippines, Currey & Co. it also sources from India and Indonesia to bring to market distinctive looks that marry natural and reclaimed materials with hand carvings, solid woods, veneers, cast metal hardware and a variety of hand-applied finishes.
"Our furniture really has two roles," Adams said. "While it clearly supports and complements our core categories such as lighting, it is developing as a strong segment in its own right."
He said that while the company has always "dabbled in furniture," it recently saw an opportunity to step up its presence in the category.
Buyers visiting the showroom will see a wide variety of furniture in an array of finishes ranging from simple waxed finishes to 20-step finishing processes, heavy distressing and sandblasted finishes that allow the grains of the various woods to shine through.
Many of the items in the line use reclaimed woods. Materials and wood species include European beech, mango, mindi , acacia and certified Indonesian mahogany.
Additionally, the company is using veneers such as ebony, ash burl, English brown oak burl, lacewood, satinwood and Mozambique
Adams pointed to a few standout introductions.
The Jules Game Table, retailing at $6,000, is all mindi wood and features a tooled leather top, coral brass cast hardware, a dolphin base and a striking pitch teak sandblasted finish.
In the showroom, the game table is accessorized by three Leighton side chairs. The chairs, which are finished and upholstered in High Point, are available in 18 finishes and 30 Valdese fabrics and retail for $1,500 each. A matching arm chair, retailing for $1,650, also is on display.
The skill of the company's factory in the Philippines is evident in a striking wood chest encrusted in seashells. It retails for $1,500.
Other signature pieces include the Bridewell Vanity, an all-wood, hand-carved piece. It features veneers and a hand-tooled leather surface.
Adams said that a number of the items in the furniture lineup carry opening suggested retails of $599.
As with Currey & Co.'s other segments, the company uses its 200,000-square-foot warehouse and factory in Atlanta to maintain favorable in-stock and delivery times.
While attracting the attention of a growing number of traditional furniture stores, Adams said that designers are still the heart and soul of his business. "We've always valued them, not only for their loyalty, but for their wonderful insights and input, which helps of be the design-driven company that we are."
