NEW YORK - Century Furniture is teaming with interior designer Juan Montoya to create a furniture line set to launch early next year as the first of the manufacturer's Century Icons series of designer- inspired groups.
The line, which will be distribute exclusively in Century corporate design showrooms, will be previewed in the company's New York showroom Wednesday, Sept. 22, during the What's New What's Next event at the New York Design Center.
"The vision for Century Icons is to find and work with our industries' greatest design talents, to understand the soul of their work, and then bring that to life through our craftspeople in Hickory (N.C.) Juan has a distinct viewpoint and we are excited to be able to create pieces that embody his vision for Century," said Alex Shuford III, the company's vice president of sales and marketing.
Montoya's line is expected to consist of about 12 to 20 pieces of upholstery, occasional, dining and bedroom furniture in a range of media from steel to parchment to exotic woods.
"We want a collection that endures, that reflects my love of noble materials, European craftsmanship, clean lines and attention to detail," Montoya said. Because the line is exclusive to the Century design showrooms, it won't be shown at the upcoming High Point Market.
More Century Icons collections are expected to be rolled out in the future. "To me, there is nothing more interesting than a group of artists in concert together where their unique personalities enhance and highlight each other," said Shuford.
Kerry Glasser, Montoya's licensing agent and president of New York-based Concept Marketing Group, added, "Leveraging the respective strengths of Mr. Montoya and Century will provide the ultimate consumer with an eclectic decorating experience just as Mr. Montoya's area rugs, decorative fabrics and other fine products have accomplished over the years."
