Bob's Discount Furniture to open 40th stores next month

New unit underscores retailer's ongoing aggressive expansion

GLENDALE, N.Y. — Bob's Discount Furniture will open its 40th store here Nov. 20, continuing its aggressive Northeastern expansion.

The 43,500-square-foot store is opening in the former Woodhaven Lanes bowling Alley on Woodhaven Boulevard and will bring 55 jobs to the community. The store follows Bob's openings earlier this year in Manhattan, Nesconset and Flushing, N.Y., and Secaucus, N.J., and will give the Top 100 company 40 stores throughout New England, New Jersey and New York.

In a press release, the Manchester, Conn.-based Bob's said its focus on "great furniture at untouchable values," is increasingly appealing to consumers in today's economic environment "and has enabled the company to continue aggressive expansion in 2010."

"The entire Bob's team looks forward to offering a new community our commitment to quality furniture at everyday low prices plus our commitment to helping the people in it through Bob's Outreach Program," said Bob's President Bob Kaufman.

The grand opening event kicks off Nov. 20, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony along with events and activities such as balloon sculpting and face painting which will run throughout the weekend, the company said.

 

Through its Bob's Outreach program, the retailer and New York City Council Member Karen Koslowitz have selected PS 175, the Lynn Gross Discovery School, to receive a $5,000 donation. In addition, the family of Richard Zirinsky Sr. of Woodhaven Realty, celebrating the arrival of their newest tenant, will make a $5,000 donation through Bob's Random Acts of Kindness campaign to PS 087 Middle Village.

Bob's is No. 14 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 with estimated sales last year of $508.9 million at 35 stores.
