Master Bedroom in furniture stores

  • Accounted for 10% of furniture store sales in 2009.
  • Accounted for 12% of selling space in furniture stores in 2009.
  • Median SKUs, 22, and median number of lines, 7.
  • Median best-selling price point, $1,299.

Master Bedroom style trends

  • Nearly one-half of all master bedroom units sold were contemporary in style.
  • At low price points ($999 and below for a bed, dresser, mirror and chest, retail), contemporary styles captured the biggest chunk of market share in terms of units, at 48%; while contemporary lead the pack, at 49%, with middle price points ($1,000 to $2,499).
  • At the upper-middle price range ($2,500 to $4,999 for a bed, dresser, mirror and chest, retail) and high price points, $5,000 and above, traditional claimed 41% and 42%, respectively, of unit market share.
  • Style features in master bedroom that retailers felt were gaining favor with consumers included multi-functional storage features, platform beds, clean lines, low footboards and dark finishes.

Consumers and Master bedroom furniture

  • Fifty-six percent of consumers shop a traditional furniture store first when shopping for master bedroom furniture.
  • 35% of consumers expect to spend between $1,000 and $1,999 on a three-piece master bedroom set (headboard, dresser and chest), while more than one-fifth expect plan to pay between $2,000 and $2,999.
