HIGH POINT — The High Point Market Authority has teamed with High Point University to offer an internship program that matches students with home furnishings companies needing workers during market and for semester-long positions throughout the year.Students involved in the program include those majoring in business, home furnishings marketing, interior design, communications and related fields.
"This is a win-win for the university and for companies who are looking for market help," said Market Authority president Brian Casey. "These students could also step in and fill posts for local businesses, public relations companies, industry associations and market buildings that need interns long-term."
Casey said HPU interns have worked at the Market Authority in recent years "and we have them to be very professional and incredibly hard working."
Participating students will receive 1 to 2 credit hours for week-long internships during market and 3 to 12 credit hours for semester-long internships at companies in the High Point area.
"While we acknowledge the significance of what takes place in our classrooms, we know that direct hands-on experience is what truly rounds out a quality education," said Dennis Carroll, provost and vice president for academic affairs at HPU. "The partnership with the High Point Market Authority will give many of our students an incredible opportunity to put their classroom education directly to work."
Companies looking for interns should contact the university's Career and Internship Services office at jobs@highpoint.edu or (336) 841-9025. When sending e-mail, include High Point Market in the subject line.
