ARCADIA, Wis. — Despite a tough economy, Ashley Furniture HomeStores added a net 21 units in 2010 to end the year with 422, the company said."Being the best and bringing the best to our customers is our relentless pursuit, which is why we're expanding domestically and abroad every day," said John Disa, president of Ashley's HomeStores division. "Our innovative marketing concepts, quality products and state-of-the-art manufacturing methods allow us to offer quality, stylish products at the best prices."
Ashley, most of whose stores are independently owned, ranked No. 1 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores with 2009 sales of $2.1 billion.
In a press release, Ashley cited an estimate from research firm IBISWorld that approximately 10% of U.S. furniture retailers closed their doors in 2010. Disa said in the release that Ashley's approach and its results demonstrated the store network's resilience.
"At Ashley, we offer the best values and designs in home furnishings and home accessories. We manufacture most of our own products in the United States and also purchase components and products from other countries, offering customers the best value for their hard-earned money," he said. "In addition, Ashley store owners and team members live in the same communities in which their stores are located, giving them better insight into the needs of their customers in these tough economic times."
