This year the partnership is particularly fitting, since Ethan Allen is also the name of Vermont's Revolutionary era farmer-turned-statesman folk hero, and some of the furniture is made at the company's plant in Orleans, Vt.
Located in Spruce Peak at Vermont's Stowe Mountain Resort, the HGTV Dream Home 2011 blends modern architecture and rustic mountain appeal to create a luxuriously livable year-round retreat.
Linda Woodrum, interior designer for the home, selected furniture, fabrics, and decorative accessories during a visit to the Ethan Allen flagship Design Center in Manhattan.
"This is the first-ever HGTV Dream Home in Vermont, and it was particularly special for us that among the furnishings Linda selected were pieces hand-crafted at the Ethan Allen workshop in Orleans, Vt.," said Ethan Allen's director of interior design, Marta Eriquez.
About 70% of Ethan Allen's products are U.S.-made and Orleans is one of the company's six domestic plants.
With a gourmet kitchen, three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms and several creatively designed living spaces, the HGTV Dream Home showcases Ethan Allen's diverse styles of furniture and accessories, the company said.
In the ski dorm, four sets of Dylan bunk beds provide sleeping accommodations for eight. Bold, earthy tones reminiscent of a morning sun are reflected in the colors of the room's rug, ottomans, and bed coverings. The master bedroom sports a black Barrett canopy bed and a pair of Parker chairs in a menswear-check fabric. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows adorned in custom Ethan Allen draperies offer spectacular mountain views.
In the dining room, a large, rectangular parson's leg dining table (made in the U.S. of responsibly harvested Appalachian timber) is surrounded by 10 chrome and black leather Sutton chairs - a juxtaposition of styles that pays homage to the home's architectural details.
Participating Ethan Allen Design Centers will host free style workshops in February to help clients create their own dream homes. Details are on ethanallen.com.
One lucky person will win the Dream Home. A virtual tour of the home, photos and information on the Dream Home sweepstakes are available on HGTV.com.
