Sources say LeatherTrend out of business
Reps told that company has stopped shipping

SAN DIEGO — Robinson & Robinson, parent company of leather upholstery producer LeatherTrend, has apparently ceased operations and is no longer shipping product to retailers, according to sources.
Sources said the company's sales representatives received letters earlier this month notifying them the company had stopped shipping. A representative confirmed to Furniture/Today that he had received such a letter.
Company President Peter Robinson did not respond to e-mail or telephone messages left this week at LeatherTrend's San Diego office and warehouse.
Founded in 1989 by Peter Robinson and his brother, Noel, the company once had annual sales of more than $150 million. However, LeatherTrend has struggled financially for more than a year. It had shown in a 50,000-square-foot Plaza Suites showroom at the April 2010 High Point Market, but was in a smaller showroom in the International Home Furnishings Center during the October market.
The bulk of the LeatherTrend line has been produced at a factory in Tijuana, Mexico. Some Robinson & Robinson product also has been sold under the SofaTrend and EasyTrend brand names.
