Participants in the contest, which was announced in September, were challenged to design a production-friendly cocktail table for the Phillips Collection. The accent furniture and accessories source will create a prototype of the table to show at future furniture markets.
Entries were judged by professional furniture designers based on presentation, creativity, use of materials, aesthetics and feasibility of manufacturing, according to the ASFD. Another judging criterion was how well the design would fit into the Phillips Collection's product lineup.
"Pine Scales was an excellent entry all-around," said judge Jason Phillips. "The design was fun, versatile and well developed. Alix provided renderings in many environments to help showcase the various finishes and applications. She also included helpful production drawings to explain manufacturability."
Armour won a cash prize of $1,000. Second place winner Joseph Sadony of Kendall College of Art & Design received $500, and third place winner Erika Cross of University of Michigan received $300.
Four honorable mentions went to Ellen Branz, Kendall College of Art and Design; Jamie Phelps, Missouri State University; Jesse Shaw, Savannah College of Art and Design; and Lacie Sparlin, Missouri State University.
All winners and honorees will receive a free one-year membership to ASFD.
