Walker Furniture's Larry Alterwitz honored for community service

Las Vegas TV station, Wells Fargo present Jefferson Award

LAS VEGAS —- Walker Furniture CEO Larry Alterwitz was honored with the Jefferson Award this month by Wells Fargo and a local television station, recognizing his community service.

For 17 years, Alterwitz and Walker, the Top 100 company based here, have been donating and delivering furniture to needy families through the retailer's "Home for the Holidays" program, according to a report by ABC affiliate KTNV.

This past December, Alterwitz and his family picked up a $50,000 tab to deliver furniture to 25 local families in need.

"There's obviously a cost to it but, you know, the reward, the inner reward and the joy that everybody feels more than makes up for the cost of the program," he told the television station.
