Smaller Bedding Sources Staying Busy

Lime Green is a new color for Glideaway’s Jubilee line of youth mattresses.
LAS VEGAS - Tier-Two bedding producers are pulling out all the stops as they seek to energize sales in the new year. Retailers will find everything from spiffy new fabrics to new green lines to highend latex offerings in bedding showrooms across the market here.
E.S. Kluft & Co. is touting fancy new border fabrics, imported from Portugal. Earl Kluft, president, calls the new fabrics "truly stunning." They are being used on the Preferred Collection, the latest offering in the Aireloom line.
Eastman House and Eclipse International are enhancing their collections with new technologies and patented features. Eastman House unveils its Burgundy collection, with models that use micro-encased coils over an encased innerspring support system, while the Eclipse Green Organic line has new models designed with natural products and CertiPur-US-approved foams.
Those companies have sharpened their pencils to spark sales in the new year. "Eastman House and Eclipse International will be offering reduced prices on any product purchased at the Las Vegas Market, as well as gallery programs designed for furniture stores and sleep shops," said Matt Connolly, president.
Pure LatexBliss kicks off its new World's Best Beds program with a sleep set containing 19 inches of Talalay latex, retailing at $5,399. Kurt Ling, CEO, calls that level of support and pressure relief "unparalleled."
New green beds are being introduced by Italian bedding producer Magniflex. The Linen Experience features a linen fabric fashioned from flax that is quilted to temperature- neutral aloe-based memory foam. It retails at $1,799. The Bamboo Chic line, with two firmnesses, retails at $1,499 and features organic bamboo and organic cotton. And the Biocotton Caresse, retailing at $2,099, has a 100% organic cotton cover quilted to a layer of soy-based foam.
That producer is also expanding its quick ship program, offering more than 20 products available via fiveday drop ship. Retailers can guarantee five-day delivery directly to consumers' homes for a flat rate - $45 for a queen mattress - to the 48 lower states and Canada.
Boyd Specialty Sleep is introducing several new lines, including two new Lux Aire beds, expected to retail from $599 to $799.
"These are high quality air beds that can be sold at velocity price points," said Denny Boyd, president. "Our retailers have a great opportunity to present these products as traffic builders at price points well below our current models, and consequently increase their share of the air bed segment."
Glideaway Sleep Products is expanding its Sleep Harmony Jubilee youth mattress with two new color options: Tangerine Orange and Lime Green.
"Retailers are looking for products that will ‘pop' on the sales floor," said Ron Fredman, Glideaway's executive vice president of sales. "The Jubilee is a perfect example of how a design element, like color, can draw a consumer to a product, and how the benefits of the mattress, such as the support and comfort it offers, close the sale. The decision to expand color options to include orange and green comes from our customers' request for more variety."
The new colors join Bubble Gum Pink and Baby Blue. Each Jubilee mattress comes with a matching pillow and retails for $399.
AC Pacific, emphasizing foam beds, is showing its AmeriMattress line, produced in China. A number of memory foam beds are doing well for that company, officials said.
Chili Technology is introducing a new generation of its temperature-control beds and pads. An upgraded control unit gives sleepers more precise control over the temperature at which they can sleep, the company said.
