Carole Sloan, industry editor, writer
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 10, 2011
NEW YORK — Carole Sloan, a senior contributing editor to Furniture/Today for decades and the founding editor of sister publication Home Textiles Today, died here last week from cancer.
Sloan was a longtime force in the home textiles and furniture industries.
She worked at JCPenney and reported for what was then known as HFD (now HFN) before becoming a senior editor at Furniture/Today when it was founded in September 1976. In 1979, she was the driving force behind the launch of Home Textiles Today and had written regularly for it ever since.
She never revealed her age to colleagues and was famous among generations of photographers for her strict instructions that she was never to be photographed.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Brown, a sister and several nieces. Her husband has asked that anyone who wishes to make a donation in her memory select their favorite charity and donate in her name.
