HMI Opens California Warehouse

HIGH POINT - Full-line importer Home Meridian International has opened a distribution center near Los Angeles as its central freight hub.
The 330,000-square-foot facility in Redlands, Calif., is near Pacific ports and interstates and will reduce transportation costs and shorten delivery times to West Coast customers by two days, a press release said.
"At a time when our competitors are closing warehouses, we are investing in high velocity inventory and superior logistics. This move makes us more competitive and responsive," said George Revington, president and CEO of Home Meridian, the parent company of Pulaski, SLF, juvenile furniture resource Creations and contract furniture producer SLH (Samuel Lawrence Hospitality).
Officials said the distribution center will provide better container flow. They said the weak economy allowed the company to negotiate a favorable lease rate for a new facility in an ideal location. HMI's former warehouse was in Phoenix, where SLF was founded.
The Redlands facility also has enough space for a permanent showroom for West Coast dealers, the company said.
