LOUDON, Tenn. — Dimitri Dounis, corporate director of marketing and foam research for furniture and bedding supplier Hickory Springs Mfg., has been elected president of the Polyurethane Foam Assn., the trade association of U.S. flexible polyurethane foam manufacturers and suppliers.
Dounis has been with Hickory Springs for 10 years, and is credited with the creation and development of the world's first commercial bio-content flexible polyurethane foam. Previously he was a research scientist for a polyurethane chemical supplier. His technical papers have been published in several scientific journals.
"Dounis has been active in the polyurethane foam business for many years," said Robert Luedeka, PFA's executive director. "His passion and extensive knowledge of the polyurethanes industry, from foam manufacturer and chemical supplier perspectives, will be a great asset to the association. We certainly will benefit from his leadership."

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Retired Hooker Furniture executive
Larry Ryder has joined the company's board of directors.
The company announced that the board had elected Ryder, who was in senior management with Hooker for 34 years and recently retired as chief financial officer and executive vice president of finance and administration.
"The board of directors believes it will be extremely beneficial for Hooker Furniture to have Larry's continued involvement at the company in this new and different capacity," said Paul Toms, chairman, CEO and president. He added that Ryder's "familiarity with our company strategy, operations, board deliberations and personnel, along with his knowledge of our industry and the investment community, will enable him to make important and immediate contributions as a board member."
