KHF Holdings to grand open fifth Ashley store

Replaces Indiana unit that closed last year

Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, March 3, 2011

CASTLETON, Ind. — Ashley Furniture HomeStores licensee KHF Holdings will grand open the 20,000-square-foot first phase of its newest HomeStore here Saturday, replacing a larger store it closed last year in Carmel, Ind.

The festivities at the store on Castle Creek Parkway East Drive start at 1 p.m. and will include giveaways, free food and other activities for consumers.

The Louisville, Ky.-based Top 100 company, with HomeStores in greater Louisville and Indianapolis, declined to disclose its investment or projected annual sales for the new store.

The company "has been fortunate enough to buck the trends of the troubled economy and expand their operation," the retailer said in a release. KHF said it closed its doors in nearby Carmel almost a year ago and was eager to get back into the northern Indianapolis marketplace.

"We couldn't be more excited to once again open our doors to such a great community," said KHF President and CEO Chris Caprio. "Shortly after our liquidation sale in Carmel, we began looking for a new location in the area. We plan to offer a slightly smaller showroom and open the space in two phases to keep our products fresh."

The second phase, with 15,000 square feet of showroom space, is expected to open next month.

Caprio said he looks for the economic recovery to fuel a continued upswing in home furnishings business, adding that KHF Holdings is committed to grow with and help sustain the regions in which it operates.

KHF Holdings was a newcomer to Furniture/Today's Top 100 last year, ranked No. 95 with estimated sales of $40 million at five stores in 2009.
