Safavieh opens warehouse in Fontana, Calif.
Will speed drop shipments on West Coast

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Home furnishings source Safavieh has acquired a 150,000-foot warehouse in Fontana, Calif., that the company said will accelerate the speed of drop shipments to West Coast customers.
The new facility, which has 35-foot ceilings, gives the company a total of 1 million square feet of warehousing space in North America, including facilities in Easton, Pa., Port Washington, N.Y., and a new distribution center in LaSalle, Ontario, which services the company's growing base of retailers in Canada.
Safavieh says it drop-ships thousands of products daily to consumers on behalf of retailers in all 50 states, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.
"Speed and efficiency will be greatly improved by splitting inventory in locations on the east and west coasts, which is particularly important for western state retailers in all channels," said Arash Yaraghi, a principal in Safavieh. "The move is particularly significant for smaller dealers west of the Mississippi, because these customers are as concerned about shipping costs as they are about speed of delivery. Our customers in western states will see their freight rates significantly reduced."
He said that since it implemented its modern logistics program in 2008, one of its main competitive advantages has been its ability to ship product within three days.
"The new distribution centers in California and Canada will expand our warehouse stock levels to provide immediate delivery on over 1,000 programmed designs, each in more than eight sizes and several color schemes," Yaraghi said.
"The momentum in our Canadian and West Coast sales has been building for years, and we are projecting increased growth in these markets," he added. "The new warehouse and distribution centers meet our needs while providing ample space for future growth."
