Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 8, 2011
DULLES, Va. — Mike Huber, CEO of retailer Belfort Furniture, has announced that he will match pledges of up to $25,000 for a walk in Washington, D.C., April 10 that will benefit City of Hope.
Dulles-based Belfort also will field a team for the event, called Walk for Hope, Women's Cancers, Women's Cures. To join the team or make a donation visit Belfort Furniture's website, www.belfortfurniture.com, or nationalevents.cityofhope.org/goto/Belfort.
City of Hope's National Home Furnishings Industry group will present Huber and Stefanie Lucas, CEO of upholstery manufacturer Rowe, with this year's Spirit of Life Award at a gala on April 3 during the High Point Market. The event, which benefits lifesaving cancer research, education and treatment at City of Hope, will be held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
"It's a privilege to receive this award from an institution that is on the cutting edge of cancer research," Huber said. "Together, the home furnishings industry and City of Hope will continue to work toward advancing innovative science and turning it into new treatments for patients battling life-threatening diseases."
"We are pleased to recognize Mike Huber for his steadfast commitment to the fight against cancer," said Shannon Sullivan, director of development for City of Hope. "He recognizes the critical role of research in making cancer a manageable and ultimately curable disease. City of Hope is fortunate to have his support and commitment to our mission."
Belfort Furniture, a family-owned business, opened its doors in 1987 and today ranks No. 96 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores, based on 2009 furniture, bedding and accessories sales of an estimated $37.4 million.
